What we do
We reverse climate change by re-storing carbon. We do this by developing and implementing a plan called Double Nature. Our aim is to sequester 1500 gigaton of CO2 which is the same amount that is already taken up by life on earth – hence Double Nature. At the core of our strategy is innovative entrepreneurship in ocean, land, rock and construction based carbon removal. We don’t wait! Will you join?
New Nature Economy
To reverse the climate and nature crisis we need to both stop emissions and restore the excess carbon. Nature-based Solutions (NbS) have the potential to remove at least 1500 gigaton, which restores the global carbon balance. NbS also restore nature, which is seriously in decline. Already in 2030, NCS can offer over 30% of the solution. They currently however receive under 3% of funds. We are changing that by developing a new sector, based on doughnut economics: the regenerative New Nature Economy.
How do we develop this new sector to reverse climate change? We:
1. pioneer scalable solutions like seaweed, rock weathering, bamboo and agroforestry
2. foster the fundamental conditions for distributed growth
3. shape and share images of the new nature economy
A detailed plan can be found in our green paper.
Nature is great at fixing carbon. In the images above you see one year of carbon dioxide on our planet: in fall the plants on the Northern hemisphere (the largest landmass) let go of their leaves and the concentration increases, in spring the carbon is taken up again as plants and trees grow. The earth breathes. Source: Nasa (2006).
1. Pioneer scalable solutions
We pioneer at land, at sea, with rocks and constructions. We chose those realms because they are potentially scalable: they can remove enough carbon to reverse climate change. While we love to arrange fundamental systemic conditions, we also like to get to work in practical senses, in the field and in our Natural Climate Solutions Lab at Port of Amsterdam.
2. Fundamental conditions
By arranging for fundamental systemic conditions, we enable a large and growing group of entrepreneurial people to develop their business, in holistic ways that take people and the planet into account. In creating these conditions we follow the principles of doughnut economics.
ONCRA
Oncra is for Open Natural Carbon Removal Accounting. The missing link between carbon removing innovators and carbon finance. Developing Oncra as open and holistic, and free for removers, is a systemic intervention that we feel will get thousands of innovators up to speed removing carbon. Oncra enables investors to have impact as well as expose themselves to the upside of the emerging new nature economy.

Construction Stored Carbon
ASN Bank and Climate Cleanup have created a financial metric for carbon storage in the built environment. The systemic goal is to enable investors to assess the amount of carbon projects store, so financials can account and invest towards 1500 gigaton of carbon dioxide removed from the atmosphere.

3. Imagination
To build a new economy we rst must dare to dream. We need to create images of the world we want. That is why we partner with the world’s best science-based communication efforts.
Regeneration
Regeneration is putting life central with everything we do. It is the basis for natural carbon removal. Climate Cleanup is translating Paul Hawken seminal new book that follows Drawdown. The transition to a thriving, regenerative world will require unprecedented collaboration. Collaboration that transcends individuals, organizations and egos. Regeneration is a growing ecosystem of people, projects and partners that are co-creating a thriving, regenerative planet.

Drawdown
Drawdown is the most comprehensive plan ever to reverse global warming. It is a groundbreaking research project by Paul Hawken and as a book quickly became a worldwide bestseller. We published the book in Dutch and co-founded Drawdown Europe.

Climate Solutions Masterclass
On the 26th of May 2021 we celebrated the 1500 Club’s first anniversary with a Festive Masterclass on Climate Solutions, with among others Paul Hawken, Damon Gameau, Roos and Ruud Koornstra and Harm Edens as the host of the evening.
Join The 1500 Club
The 1500 Club supports our work. We are 1500 people taking responsibility for the removal of 1500 gigaton of extra CO2 in our atmosphere, using natural climate solutions. The 1500 Club is by and for parents, entrepreneurs, investors, children, decision makers and anyone who wants to double nature and reverse climate change.
